Clinic Descriptions:

Round Penning I:

Description: This is the first clinic that we offer. It is designed to provide a foundation and starting point that all subsequent clinics will build on. Safety and communication with your horse will dramatically improve, as we work through these exercises together.

  3. Turn and Face
  4. Begin Spook Proofing
  5. Sack Out
  6. Come to you cue (walk)

Prerequisites to attend: Must be able to trailer your horse and safely ride around other people and horses.

Round Penning II:

Description: This clinic is designed to build on the foundation gained in Round Penning I. We will have follow up focus on safety and acclimating your horse to scary objects.

  1. Come to you cue (trot)
  2. Intermediate Spook Proofing
  3. Crossing Tarps
  4. Head down cue
  5. Preparing to Bridle your horse

Prerequisites to attend: Must attend Round Penning I, or have instructor approval prior to class.

Groundwork I:

Description: This clinic is where your horse will begin to learn to give to the bit from the ground. Safety will be reinforced as we work through disengaging your horse hips and clockwork exercises. These exercises are a MUST for the avid trail rider or riders taking their horses to an unfamiliar environment.

  1. Bridling your horse
  2. Go Forward cue
  3. Disengage your horses hindquarters
  4. Hips, shoulder, shoulder exercise
  5. Developing softness to the bit
  6. Beginning clockwork

Prerequisites to attend: Must have attended Round Pen I & II, or have instructor approval prior to class.

Groundwork II:

Description: This clinic prepares the rider and horse for the application of all groundwork and round penning work done in previous clinics. Whether this is your first ride or one of many, safety and improving your horse’s foundation will be stressed.

  • Advanced clockwork
  • Hips over
  • Side pass from ground
  • Sacking out (review)
  • First saddling
  • First Ride
  • Using exercises you learned on ground while mounted

Prerequisites to attend: Knowledge of all previous lessons, or have instructor approval prior to class.

Horsemanship I:

Description: This clinic aids the rider to have a strong stop and control of your horses direction while traveling. In addition, you will learn how the previous groundwork translates directly to the horse while mounted. You will learn control of the horses shoulders and hips while at the trot. All of these exercises with give you a greater control and responsiveness while mounted.

  1. 3 Step stop and start
  2. Directional Control from the saddle
  3. Hip, shoulder, shoulder from the saddle
  4. Connect the rein to horses foot
  5. Review giving to the bit and developing softness

Prerequisites to attend: You must be able to safely ride around other riders and their horses. All above foundation clinics must have been completed, or have instructor approval prior to class.
